The maximum pitch for these tiles is 90°, while the minimum pitch is 22.5° for areas with moderate exposure and 25° for areas with severe exposure with a 100mm lap. In areas with moderate exposure and a 110mm lap, the minimum pitch is 20°, and in areas with severe exposure, the minimum pitch is 22.5°. The tiles have a covering capacity of 13.4 per m² at a 100mm lap and 13.6 per m² at a 110mm lap, alongside tiling weights of 20.4kg/m² (0.20kN/m²) at a 100mm lap and 20.9kg/m² (0.20kN/m²) at a 110mm lap.

To install these tiles, 30mm x 2.65mm slate nails (copper to BS1202-2) and copper disc rivets are used. For rafters/supports spaced at 450mm centres or less, it is recommended to use batten sizes of 38 x 25mm. For rafters or supports spaced at 600mm centres or less, batten sizes of 50 x 25mm are recommended. At a 100mm lap, 4.00 linear metres of battens are required per m², while at a 110mm lap, 4.08 linear metres of battens are required per m².

These fibre cement slates achieve an average bending moment of over 50Nm/m (Class B), meeting the strength criteria outlined in BS EN 492. They have a nominal thickness of 4mm and a minimum density of 1700kg/m³.

Batch Code

• The underside of the slates has a batch code that follows a certain format. For example, the code NT UG21WB 24/11/11 12.10 CE refers to the type of product (NT) (i.e. non-asbestos technology), the product code (UG21), the manufacturing plant ID (W), class for bending moment (B), the date (24/11/11) and time (12.10) of manufacture and the CE mark (CE).

Guidance on pitch and lap

• Certain circumstances can affect the performance of tile or slate at the minimum recommended pitch and lap, influencing their effectiveness. Directions for pitch and lap should be sourced from the Technical Advisory Service for the following: interlocking tiles and slates where the roof slope exceeds 6m in length and/or the site is rated to be in a severe exposure category; double-lap fibre cement slates where the roof slope surpasses 6m in length (severe/very severe exposure) and 9m in length (sheltered/moderate exposure). To evade potential efflorescence staining, it is advised to seal any cut edges.
